The long-awaited film by David Ondříček enters to Czech cinemas on Thursday 13 September. Barrandov Studios participated in its creation as co-producer.


“We are pleased to have the position of the co-producer in this particular project that brings so difficult and yet important topic,” says Petr Tichy, sales director of Barrandov Studios. “Picture was created partly in our stages with our set construction team. Our collection of Costumes and Props Department was also involved and Barrandov Film Labs participated in the postproduction as well.”

Set in former Czechoslovakia amid dramatic events of the 1950s is a gripping crime narrative that ultimately intervenes in the fates of the characters and their loved ones. Captain Hakl is investigating a jewelery store heist. Thanks to behind-the-scenes scheming on the part of the secret police though, a run-of-the-mill burglary becomes a political affair. The aim is to avert attention from much more significant events that the communist dictatorship has underway for its people. The leading characters played by Czech Ivan Trojan and German Sebastian Koch.

In the Shadow came about as a Czech-Slovak-Polish-Israeli coproduction. The producers are David Ondříček (Lucky Man Films) and Kryštof Mucha, the co-producers are Jacek Naglowski and Agnieszka Janowska from the Polish production company Centrala Film, and Patrik Pašš of Trigon Production represents Slovakia. Other co-producers include Ehud Bleiberg-Bleiberg Entertainment, the company RWE, Barrandov Studio and Avion Film. The main partner is TV Nova and the media partner is HBO.
