Scenes from Sequel to Russian film "Burnt by the sun" start shooting at Barrandov

Today Barrandov saw the first day of filming of scenes from the sequel to “Burnt by the Sun”, a Russian film that was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1994 and received an Oscar the next year. This second film, also directed by Nikita Mikhalkov, will continue shooting at one of Barrandov’s soundstages and its exterior pool for more than ten days. In addition to the Czech Republic, parts of the film have already been shot in France, Germany and Russia. The film is set to premier at the start of next year.

“Only the final filming of several scenes is taking place at Barrandov, specifically at one of the new soundstages and using the exterior pool, where the sinking of a dummy ship will be shot. The filmmakers are taking advantage of Barrandov’s Set Division as well, which, in addition to the dummy ship, is also constructing an airplane. They will also use some items borrowed from our Costumes and Props Department and use the services of our film laboratories,” said Barrandov Studios Director Ing. Janka Vozarova.

The film “Burnt by the Sun” is based on a dramatic work by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov and elaborates on a psychological plot set against the political background of the Stalinist purges, during which several million people were murdered, including some of Stalin’s most faithful comrades.
